>Do you truly own your toaster?_

>xamining Cory Doctorow's Radicalized

Cory Doctorow's book, Radicalized, is a series of novellas that all examine themes of class struggle, resistance, revolution and alienation in a vision of America that is falling apart. Inspired by and written during Donald Trump's first term, the novellas uncannily seem to predict the events occuring in America today.

Unauthorized Bread

The first novella in the book is Unauthorized Bread - which follows a refugee woman known as Salima as she navigates a borderline cyberpunk world where machines serve corporations instead of people. Her toaster only accepts bread made by its own company unless it's gone stale, the elevators of her apartment don't open for her because she's in a lower tax bracket than the people said elevators do open for, and the plot begins when Salima has to return her toaster to working order because the company managing it went bankrupt.
