Sawyer Trout is a pretty typical teenager who goes to a pretty typical high school and does pretty typical teen things like make art, crack crude jokes, and casually befriend analog horror monsters. Outside of that, they hang out with their childhood ride or die Charles Horse, and their buddy from art class Matt Rest.
Sawyer is assertive, impulsive and perhaps a little too confident. They kind of take a leadership role in their friend group, where they make plans that they don't entirely think through. This usually leads to comical disaster. However - they are self-aware. They recognize that their plans tend not to work out, and consider themself dumber than they actually are, especially when they compare themself to Charles. Regardless, their plans can sometimes work out.
Their relationship to their gender is... complicated. They aren't entirely sure if they're closer to being genderfluid or agender. What they do know is that they're some sort of gender chameleon - that is, the way they percieve themself varies depending on who they hang out with. For example, when Sawyer hangs out with Charles Horse, who is cis male and doesn't feel a need to change that, Sawyer himself feels similarly masculine. Meanwhile, with Matt Rest, who is more bigender, Sawyer also takes on Matt's odd balance between masculinity and femininity.
