Matt Rest is one of Sawyer Trout's newer friends. Aloof and seldom seen outside of school, he deliberately seeks to cultivate a frightening and offputting reputation. However, he tolerates Sawyer's presence because he thinks Sawyer makes cool art, which makes Sawyer cool by proxy. When he gets involved in one of Sawyer's wild schemes (or any sort of job or quest, really) he strives to go above and beyond... and sometimes a little overboard, which can often lead to comical disaster.
Outside of school, Matt mostly stays home, in her room in the attic, where she spends her time on the internet. Outside of art, she takes a lot of interest in history. Both influence the way she speaks to the point where a good chunk of her dialogue is taken up by obscure and nigh-incomprehensible internet slang. "Be not afraid" is her go-to greeting.
